Craft Shortcuts Action Reference

Parameters, defaults, behavior, and return values for Craft actions in Apple Shortcuts.

Reference for Craft actions in Apple’s Shortcuts app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Actions are grouped by the categories you see in Shortcuts. Expand an action for its parameters and what it returns.

For the Document and Folder actions, select Space before opening the document or folder picker. The picker is empty until a Space is selected. Some actions can infer the Space from a document passed by an earlier action; Daily Note destinations still need an explicit Space. The document or folder must belong to that Space. To use an earlier result, insert it with the variable picker.

When an action asks for a Document, Folder, or Task, pick one from the list or pass the result of an earlier Craft action. Typing a title or pasting a link doesn’t work. Siri Actions use Apple’s names instead: a Note is a Craft document and a Reminder is a Craft task.

Documents

Create Document

Creates a new document in a Space, optionally inside a folder. Each run creates a new document, even if one with the same title already exists.

Used in Import a text file with a generated title.

Add to Document

Adds content to the beginning or end of a document or page. The existing content and title stay as they are. Each run adds the content again, even if it’s already there.

Daily Note (Today), Daily Note (Yesterday), and Daily Note (Tomorrow) always point to the right day when the shortcut runs. If that Daily Note doesn’t exist yet, Craft creates it. To add to a page inside a document, pass the result of Find Page as the Document.

If both Content and Images are empty, nothing is added.

Returns

Craft Document: the document that received the content. If you added to a page, you get its parent document, not the page or the new blocks.

Used in Voice inbox.

Rename Document

Changes a document’s title. Its content and folder stay as they are. Renames the whole document, not a page or heading inside it.

Open Document

Opens a document or page in Craft.

Open Daily Note

Opens the Daily Note for today, tomorrow, yesterday, or a specific date.

Move Document

Moves a document to another folder in the same Space. Its title and content stay as they are.

Delete Document

Moves a document to Trash, or deletes it permanently if you turn on Delete Permanently.

Find Page

Looks inside a document or page for the title you enter, including nested content. Matching compares the whole title, ignoring capitalization, and checks pages before other blocks. Within each search, it returns the first match from the top.

If no page matches, Find Page searches other blocks for matching text. It only searches the selected document or page and its nested content, not the whole Space. If nothing matches, the action fails with “Could not find subpage”.

Craft Document or page: the matching block. Pass it to Add to Document or Open Document.

Add Subpage to Document

Creates a new page inside a document or page.

Daily Note destinations always point to the right day when the shortcut runs, and Craft creates the Daily Note if it doesn’t exist yet.

Returns

Craft Document: a Document value pointing to the new subpage, not its parent document. Pass it to actions that accept a document or page.

Get first level blocks

Returns the text of the top-level blocks in a document or page. Nested blocks aren’t included.

Only text blocks are returned. Code, tables, links, images, and files are skipped but still count toward Number. The document title isn’t included.

Folders

Create Folder

Creates a folder in a Space, optionally inside another folder.

Open Folder

Opens a folder in Craft.

Rename Folder

Changes a folder’s name.

Parameters

Move Folder

Moves a folder into another folder in the same Space, or to the top level.

Delete Folder

Deletes a folder and its subfolders. The documents inside aren’t deleted: they move to the parent folder, or to Unsorted if the folder was at the top level.

Built-in folders can’t be deleted.

Navigation

Open Craft

Opens Craft, optionally in a specific Space and view.

Open And Search

Opens search in a Space, optionally with a search term filled in.

Open Quick Entry

Opens Quick Entry in the mode you choose, optionally with text filled in. You finish the entry yourself.

On Mac, this opens the Quick Entry window. On iPhone and iPad, it opens Quick Entry in Craft. The shortcut doesn’t get back the item you create.

Tags

Open Tag

Shows the documents with a tag in a Space.

Tasks

Create Task

Creates a task at the top of a document or subpage, or in the Space’s task Inbox. Content and images are added inside the task.

Schedule and Deadline are dates only. Reminder sends a notification, so it also needs a time.

Set Task Status

Marks a task as Pending, Completed, or Canceled.

Reminders

Create Reminder

Creates a Craft reminder that isn’t attached to a document. This is different from Create Reminder in Siri Actions, which creates a task.

Siri Actions

These actions follow Apple’s own formats for notes, reminders, and in-app search, so Siri and Apple Intelligence can work with them. You can also add them to a shortcut like any other action. They need iOS, iPadOS, or macOS 27 or later.

In these actions, a note is a Craft document and a reminder is a Craft task. Text is added as plain text: Markdown isn’t converted. Documents in Templates and its subfolders are excluded from Find Note and Note pickers. Templates and its subfolders are also excluded from Folder pickers in Siri Actions.

Create Note

Creates a Craft document. Each non-empty line of Content becomes its own block.

Find Note

Finds Craft documents across your Spaces. Documents in Trash, hidden documents, and documents in Templates or its subfolders aren’t included.

Shortcuts creates the search, filter, and sort options for this action, so their labels can vary between OS versions. Only titles are searched, not document content.

Open Note

Opens a Craft document.

Parameters

Update Note

Changes a document’s title, attachments, star, or folder. Anything you leave empty stays the same.

Parameters

The Folder picker lists folders across Spaces, labelled with the Space and folder names. Choose a folder in the document’s current Space. A folder in another Space causes the action to fail with “The selected item belongs to a different space”.

If a folder move fails, the action reports an error. Any title, star, or attachment changes already applied remain saved.

To add text to the document, use Append Text to Note.

Append Text to Note

Adds text to the end of a Craft document. Each non-empty line becomes its own block.

Create Reminder (Siri Actions)

Creates a Craft task in a Space’s task Inbox. This is different from Create Reminder in the Reminders category.

Leave Section empty. Setting it causes the action to fail with “Sections are not supported”. Apple’s format also shows Flagged, Images, Tags, URLs, Repeat, and Location Trigger. Craft ignores these fields. For images, a deadline, or a notification, use Create Task instead.

Returns

Craft Reminder: the new task. Pass it to Open Reminder, Update Reminder, or Delete Reminders.

Open Reminder

Opens a Craft task. Tasks in the Inbox open in the Inbox; other tasks open in their document.

Update Reminder

Updates a Craft task. Anything you leave empty stays the same.

Leaving Title, Content, or Schedule Date empty keeps the current value; it doesn’t clear it. Apple’s format also shows Tags, URLs, Repeat, Flagged, and Location Trigger. Craft ignores these.

Craft Reminder: the updated task.

Delete Reminders

Deletes one or more Craft tasks.

Opens Craft search with your search term.
