Apple’s Image Playground is built directly into Craft, allowing you to generate images from text descriptions without leaving your documents. Create visual content for brainstorming, placeholder images, or creative projects using Apple’s generative AI technology.

What is Image Playground?

Image Playground is Apple’s generative image AI feature that creates images based on text descriptions. When integrated into Craft, it lets you generate and insert images directly into your documents with just a few taps or clicks. The generated images are created on-device using Apple Intelligence, ensuring your privacy while providing quick, creative visual content.
Image Playground processes everything on your device using Apple Intelligence. No data is sent to external servers, and your prompts remain completely private.

Requirements

To use Image Playground in Craft, you need:
  • iOS 18.2 or later for iPhone and iPad
  • macOS 15.2 (Sequoia) or later for Mac
  • Compatible device with Apple Intelligence support
  • Apple Intelligence enabled in System Settings
Image Playground requires devices with Apple Intelligence support, such as iPhone 15 Pro and later, iPad with M1 chip or later, or Mac with M1 chip or later.

Generating Images

Access Image Playground through Craft’s insert menu to start generating images.

Click anywhere in your document where you want to insert an image.

Type / to open the slash menu or click the + button in the toolbar.

Select Image Playground from the menu.

Enter a text description of the image you want to generate.

Choose a visual style (Animation, Illustration, or Sketch).

Tap or click Generate to create your image.

Visual Styles

Image Playground offers three distinct visual styles for your generated images:
  • Animation - Creates images with a 3D, animated character style, perfect for playful, modern visuals
  • Illustration - Generates images with an artistic, hand-drawn feel, ideal for creative presentations
  • Sketch - Produces images with a simple, pencil-drawn aesthetic, great for quick concepts and diagrams
You can experiment with different styles to find the one that best fits your document’s tone and purpose.
Try generating the same prompt with different styles to see which works best for your content. Each style interprets your description differently, offering unique creative options.

Editing and Regenerating

If the first generated image doesn’t match your vision, you can easily refine it:
  • Regenerate – Create a new variation using the same prompt and style
  • Edit prompt – Modify your text description to adjust the result
  • Change style – Switch between Animation, Illustration, and Sketch styles
  • Try again – Generate completely new interpretations
Generated images cannot be edited after insertion into your document. To make changes, delete the image and generate a new one with updated parameters.

  • Experiment freely – Generation is fast, so try multiple variations
  • Consider your audience – Choose styles that match your document’s tone

Privacy and Processing

Image Playground processes all generation requests on your device using Apple Intelligence. This means:
  • Your prompts never leave your device
  • No internet connection required for generation
  • No data sent to external servers
  • Complete privacy for all creative work
Generated images are stored in your Craft documents like any other image you insert, maintaining the same privacy and sync capabilities.
Because Image Playground runs entirely on your device, generation works even when you’re offline. Your creative process remains uninterrupted regardless of internet connectivity.
